Craving a delicious café latte one late Saturday morning, a friend introduced me to a jewel in the middle of Canoga Park.
Pastries by Edie has been located on Sherman Way near Owensmouth for 14 years, but I have never noticed it. Tucked away in a dark recess, it is located directly across from another favorite of mine, Henri’s restaurant and bar.
Entering the pastry shop and café, tables and chairs are surrounded by dark blue walls on one side and on the other, painted images of Parisians streets.
But it’s the Parisian treats that delight. Glass cases are filled with pastries of all kinds, and wonderful cakes–Cream cakes, fruit filled cakes, cheesecakes and more.
We enjoyed a chocolate croissant, accompanied by a cafe latte. The croissant was perfectly flaky, and the chocolate was rich and dark.
They also have a lunch menu of sandwiches and salads.
Canoga Park is known for antique stores and funky thrift shops, and is sprinkled with a health food store, dance bars, $.99 stores, and various odds and ends, including a local community theater.
While some might not think it an ideal location for a Parisian café, I found Pastries by Edie quaint. If only the tables could be sitting outside in the sunshine, as depicted in the paintings on the walls.
Definitely worth a visit for those pastries.
